Natural Remedies for Constipation

Constipation is the inability of the bowels to empty them everyday. Constipation makes your life miserable. Poor diet, lack of exercise, insufficient intake of fiber and water deficiency is the primary causes that lead to constipation.

Symptoms of constipation are:

* Exerting pressure for bowel movement

* Hard or pellet like stools

* Infrequent bowel movement

* Partial emptying of bowels

Following a healthy diet and living a healthy lifestyle is the best remedy for constipation. But there are some natural remedies that you can adopt to get immediate relief.

* Eat more potassium-rich foods. Potassium strengthens the colon walls and restarts peristaltic action that stimulates bowel movements. It removes the layers of mucus and dried faeces present on the colon walls. The best sources of potassium are prunes, tomatoes, broccoli, cucumbers, kale, sesame, seeds, wheat germ, brewers yeast, pineapple and cauliflower.

* Aloe is an excellent laxative. It cleans your stomach and intestines properly. Besides aloe, you can take buckthorn, frangula and senna to treat constipation. But take these herbs carefully for a short time.

* Take psyllium and drink plenty of water. Since psyllium is full of soluble fiber, it is an excellent remedy for constipation.

* Crush flaxseeds and take 1-2 tablespoons of this powder daily with plenty of water. Flaxseeds have excellent laxative properties, and hence are used in herbal products to relieve constipation. Ensure you drink minimum 8 glasses of water daily.

* Rhubarb is another fiber-rich herb that has the same property as senna. Hence use extreme caution while using this herb.

Opting for natural remedies is far better than depending on laxatives. But following preventive measures like eating plenty of fruits and vegetables, exercising sufficiently and drinking plenty of water are the best means to avoid constipation.
